Ministries & Programs

Friendship UMC has numerous ministries and programs available for all to grow in faith, love and serve each other, and follow One.  If you are interested in participating or would like more information, please give us a call or send us an email.

At this time, due to the COVID pandemic, church activities are not taking place as regularly scheduled.  Please contact the church office at 410-257-7133 for information about our services and activities.

  • Adult Sanctuary Choir – The Adult Sanctuary choir is open to all adults. Come sing with us Tuesday nights in the Music room, from 7:15pm to 8:45pm.
  • Bible Studies – Friendship UMC offers a variety of Bible study programs.  All are welcome to attend.
  • Children’s Choir – The Children’s Choir is open to all children ages 4-11.
  • Children’s Ministry – Children are a very important part of the ministries of Friendship UMC. We offer a wide range of Bible-based, Christ-centered Sunday School classes for children from nursery age through grade 12.
  • Community Outreach – The mission work at Friendship UMC is spearheaded by the Mission Team. This group organizes fund-raising projects, coordinates existing mission projects and evaluates potential new mission projects for the church.
  • Handbell Choir – The Adult Handbell Choir is open to all individuals. Rehearsals are on Monday nights.
  • Health Ministry – Our Volunteer Faith Community Nurse, is available to answer health questions, provide individualized health information on specific topics, or provide information on local resources. Please contact via email: nurse@friendshipmethodist.org or by calling the church office.
  • Safe Sanctuary – God calls us to make our churches safe places, protecting children and other vulnerable persons from abuse.  That is what Safe Sanctuary is all about.
  • Scholarship Program – Each year, the Board of Trustee awards scholarships to worthy recipients attending college or graduate school. The Scholarship is available to FUMC Church members and more information is available through the church office.  This year’s scholarship requirements and application are now available here. This year’s application must be received by the Board of Trustees by JANUARY 27, 2021.
  • Senior’s Ministry – This ministry includes a variety of programs for older members of the church and the surrounding community.  Please contact the church (bsuedean@friendshipmethodist.org/410-257-7133) for a resources library for supporting seniors in your community prepared by “Stand Up For Caregivers”.
  • Sports – FUMC fields a men’s, a women’s, and a co-ed softball team in the Calvert Christian League. The teams are open to those age 15 and older. While players do not have to be members of the church, they do have to attend regularly.
  • Staff/Pastor Parish Relations Committee (SPPRC) – This committee handles all matters related to the church staff, including the pastor.
  • Stephen Ministry – Stephen Ministry is a program that equips lay persons to provide distinctively Christian one-to-one care to those who are experiencing all kinds of life needs and circumstances, both in our congregation and community.
  • Sunday School – Sunday School for children is held each Sunday beginning in September through the beginning of June from 9:45a to 10:45a during the academic year.
  • United Methodist Men (Men’s Group) – The UMM group supports mission projects in the community, the nation, and the world, in addition to organizing activities for the congregation and community.
  • United Methodist Women (Women’s Group) – Friendship UMC Tabitha Circle organizes and performs a variety of projects and outreach.
  • United Methodist Youth Fellowship (Youth Group) – UMYF is open to middle school and high school students from the church and community.
  • Vacation Bible School – VBS is open to the youth each summer in June.
  • Other Ministries We Support – Good News Jail and Prison Ministry, South County Faith Network, South County Assistance Network, and several international ministries and missions.  Please contact the church office (bsuedean@friendshipmethodist.org/410-257-7133 for a lists of emergency food resources and food pantries for South County.
