Eternal God, we remember that You know all about us. You know us, our family, our community, and the world. You know what happened yesterday and what will happen tomorrow. This morning we woke up to news of another mass shooting. We are shocked and have no way but to ask, “Why???”
Loving God, we are saddened that things are not right in this world. We don’t understand mass shooting and still wonder why, but we do understand that You can give us Your comfort, strength, and courage in times like this.
Lord, in Your mercy, remember the family and friends of the victims. Surround them with Your comforting presence, dry their tears, and heal their wounds.
We also pray for the survivors and their loved ones; the first responders and their loved ones; the residents of Las Vegas and Mesquite; the community leaders and the leaders of our nation; all who are concerned about the situation and for the future.
Remind us the freedom and power to resist the evil, injustice, and oppression in whatever forms they present themselves. Give us Your strength to fight the violence, anger, hatred, and fear.
Dear Jesus, Lamb of God, who takes away the sins of the world, give us a contrite heart that we may truly repent of our sins and receive Your forgiveness. Dear Lamb of God, who takes away the sins of the world, have mercy on us. Grant us peace.
As You poured out Your very self through Your Son, pour Your Spirit into our hearts today. Come, Holy Spirit, and heal all that is broken in our lives, in our streets, and in our world. In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
